Kevin Donohue

Why do you play paintball?Kevin Donohue

Because I have no life.

What is your home field, and what does it have to offer?

I don’t really have a home field right now.  But I try to play as much as possible.  Air Assault Paintball has a great indoor field, staff, and players so I try to go there when I can.  Annandale Paintball is another very nice field.  They have an NPPL and PSP setup, both with really nice grass.  The staff there is top notch.  I would recommend it to players that don’t mind making a longer drive.  It’s worth it.

What tournament series & division do you currently play in?

This year I played a couple of the Vicious series events (raceball format) and a few Air Assault tournaments.  Both are great series with very good prize packages.  You would have to be CRAZY to not play these.  I’m currently ranked D3.

What teams have you played for in the past? And who do you play for now?

-Currently “playing” for New Jack City

-AIR ASSAULT FACTORY

-Warbirds

What was your greatest achievement so far in your paintball career? What events have you won?

- 4th place with my friends at World Cup 2008.

- Won a few local tournaments over the last couple years.

-1st at Vicious event #2 in 2009.

-3rd place finish at MAO PSP 2007.

-2nd place finish at Chicago PSP 2009.

I’m proud of the fact that all of these tournaments were in the PSP format.  It’s my favorite style of play.  I am not happy with the fact that all of them were either won in D4 or D3 tournaments.  I want to get up there!

What was the best prize package you’ve ever won?

An NXE battle swab!

What keeps you playing paintball?

The fact that you can shoot someone, make them cry and bleed, and not go to jail.

What gun do you use, and why do you like it?

Air Assault Geo.  It shoots goooooood.  Kind of sounds like a cannon though.

What suggestions do you have for new players?

Get yourself a decent gun before you try to get into the speedball part of the sport.  Pick up a recent derder DVD so that you can see some of the better player’s techniques.  Finally, spend the money that you have on paint, and field time.  Don’t just buy guns so that you can finger bang them in your parent’s basement.

Describe your style of play on the field.

Run around the field like an idiot with my head cut off and try to take out as many players as I can.  Always shooting and moving. Sometimes overly aggressive (stupid aggressive) but I am slowly learning how to control myself.

Are there any people who have been influential on your playing style? Who are they and how have they impacted your game?

People in Minnesota that have helped me and made me what I am on the paintball field today would be; Brent Kotchman, JT Grundy, Chopp, A little bit of Aaron Tholey, and a little bit of Brandon Lantto back in the day.  These five people over the years have turned me into a D3 “killing machine.”

What do you think your greatest strength in paintball is? What do you need improvement on?

Biggest strength would probably be that I can play literally anywhere on the field.  I am confident in myself that I can play the snake just as well as back center, a corner position, or the Doritos.  I need some help with playing the X, my feet always get shot.

What position do you currently play on the field? Why do you think your team has placed you in that role?

At vicious #3 I would start off in back center and shoot snake side and then fill to the snake corner.  I think they placed me there because I can get my gun up pretty fast off the break and my paint is usually on with the first or second ball.  Im pretty quick too so that’s why they had me fill out.  OR they just put me there because DALLAS KINKHOUSE needed a water break.

Outside of paintball, what do you do for a living?

I am currently working at R&M manufacturing.  I’m Also going to school for Water Treatment Technology.  Maybe some teams will actually want me on a roster once I get a real job with a solid income?

Finally what MN Paintball player (Past or Present) would you like to see featured next?

JaCUB Stillman, That kid’s a baller.
