John Frank
How long have you been playing paintball? and how did you get started?
I started in 2003 playing in the woods and moved to speedball in early ’06 it was with my aunt and uncles church they had a week long summer camp that had paintball and other things and i was just hooked
What tournament series & division do you currently play in?
I’m currently playing in the I-29 series and I’m ranked D4 (thanks Chris Raehl) What rank do you think you should be? and what are your thoughts on the APPA classification system?I belive I would be ranked D3. Personaly I think it’s a joke not every event enters the final scores and that’s why almost every player in mn is still ranked d4
How often do you practice per week and how far do you have to travel to practice?
Currently i try to get out and play once a week but i have schedualed practices every other weekend Does the field you play at offer a practice that is open to other teams & players? If so what days are they, what time, and how much does it cost? Not really it’s kinda a case by case basis. Annandale paintball does offer discount Sunday which includes discounted paint and air/entry I belive it comes to be $50 for a case of paint/air/entry
What was your greatest achievement so far in your paintball career? What events have you won?
My greatest achievement would have to be getting 2nd place in the 2008 MWPPA series and getting 1st place at the 2nd event of the ’10 I-29 with the Warbirds.
What was the best prize package you’ve ever won?
In the MWPPA we won free entry for the next season, recently at the I-29 our team won $700, and I once received a 68/4500 tanks as a prize in a Air Assault 4-Man tournament
What gun do you use, and why do you like it?
Angel A1 w/all the fly goodies-many people talk shit about angel but really all they need is some time and a person that know how to make them work(if you have an angel send it to Steve Grundy over at annandale paintball) but they are actually really nice and work great So how does the Angel shoot out of the box then? APS had there production center moved to china during the prodution of the A1/A1fly platfourm and there was some problems with them many fixable with the magno ram and valve. I for see no major problems now that they have moved production back to the UK
What suggestions do you have for new players?A)just keep trying and try to meet as many people as possible also try to attend a national event even if its just to watch its a great time Q)What teams have you played for in the past? And who do you play for now?
High Octaine(AYT) Inferno(AYT) Inertia(locals) Warbirds(local/reginals)(also current) How did you land your spot on the Warbirds? Who are some other noteable players on the team? I was working for Air assault paintball at the time and the warbirds practiced there on Friday nights, Brandon lantto(brirdman as know by many) had seen me play and told me to tag along to a practice. Kyle Soderman and Conner Amudsom both play for the fallout line but both are extreamly talented and are only 15 years old Did you know them prior to joining? Yea I played the AYTs back in the day and reffed the MWPPA and talked to JT Grundy many times
What is it like playing for the Warbirds? What series do they currently play? Do you know of any plans to compete nationally?
I personaly think its great but just like any other team it can have its ups and downs. We compete in the I-29s series, we were hoping to attend NPPL chicago but it was too difficult for our players to get off of work. Tha plan is to play NPPL Vegas this October.
What is your best memory in paintball?
A)2006 PSP World Cup putting Dan”MINI”Vaale in one of the new empire gear bags anddragging him around out side the empire tent
What keeps you playing paintball?
The fun of the game and im not stopping till I atleast play one national event
Are there any people who have been influential on your playing style? Who are they and how have they impacted your game?
Matt Felegy, Johnny G, MINI all tought me how to play paintball and i really couldnt thanks then enough for taking the time with me
What do you think your greatest strength in paintball is? What do you need improvement on?
I think im just going to have to quote brent kotchman on this”franky is a warrior, a dedicated player on a misguided team” i have stuck around while others have jumped ship. so i would just say my dedication is my greatest strength. over the last few season ive been playing snake side more often and have been getting good at it A lot of players do jump ship and go other ways, why do you think you’ve stayed with the Warbirds? Have you had any offers to play with other teams? I have no reasons to leave the warbirds we are one big family and they have everything I want. I have had other offers to tryout but like I said I’m happy with the players I play with
What do you think needs to happen in Minnesota to develop divisional teams that will be able to compete nationally?
It has already happend but the players them selfs think the grass is greener somewhere else and thats how teams fall apart Do you think the grass is greener? No I’ve seen the other side and it looks the same to me. With each team they’ll have there goods and bads
Finally what MN Paintball player (Past or Present) would you like to see featured next?
Lance Lynard
